Totally agree with you, but I think there is an even more important category of devices that should be repairable: household appliances. Things like TVs, washers/dryers, and refrigerators suffer from the same problems you describe our smartphones having. I do not know to what extent built-in obsolescence is actually a thing, but anecdotal evidence from growing up in a home renovation company suggests that these devices have shorter lifespans and are harder to repair than even 20 years ago. The result is they end up in scrap heaps and landfills. They run more efficiently than their ancestors, but it does not seem unreasonable that they last more than 5 years too.
